Hello, welcome to Kc’s Art Shop!
My name is Kayla and my jewelry is inspired by the desert and flowers. I grew up in New Mexico and moved to Charlotte at age 5. I am a city girl but I’m also connected to nature and gardens. Every summer I visit my dad and in summer 2019 we went to this coffee shop called “The Collective.” In the collective there are local artists that have their own style and artwork they sell. When you step inside their space you step in their shoes. You get to see their passion and how driven they are. You get to learn so much about that individual.
Art to me is an expressive outlet where I can be myself and pour my creativity into a project. I was born in New Mexico and there are lots of deserts and cactuses. I wanted to implement my hometown into my work by showing how a dry desert over time can provide a home for everyone and everything. There’s so much in New Mexico that people don’t realize and it’s beautiful and you appreciate nature more.
Growing up I spent a lot of time with my grandparents. My grandma loved gardening and taught me delicious recipes from our garden. Grandpa taught me how to maintain and take care of the flowers while protecting them from insects. You can say I have a green thumb and I enjoy seeing a small seed grow to its full potential. When I garden it’s very therapeutic and it calms me.
